Jobs Top the List of Economic
Concerns
When it comes
to improving Washington’s economy, jobs are the leading top
of mind economic concern for Washington voters today, ahead of other
leading concerns, including high taxes and fuel costs. Specific
results include:

Combining
open end responses into broader categories, we find personal pocketbook
issues emerge as the leading concern (36%), which includes high
taxes, fuel costs, housing costs and the cost of living. Jobs
also continue to be an important economic concern (21%), followed
distantly by concerns about transportation and infrastructure
(8%) and education issues (6%).
Looking
at top of mind reactions by region, jobs are a leading concern for
all areas, while voters in King County outside Seattle are also
equally concerned about high taxes; voters in Kitsap, Pierce, Snohomish
and Thurston counties are equally concerned about fuel costs; and
voters elsewhere in the West and in Eastern Washington are equally
concerned about all three priorities. Men are equally likely to
be concerned about jobs and high taxes, while women age 18-54 are
equally concerned about jobs and fuel costs, and women age 55 and
older are most concerned about jobs. By party, Republicans are most
concerned about high taxes, while Democrats are most concerned about
jobs and Independents are divided between the two. By political
philosophy, Conservative voters are most concerned about high taxes,
Liberals are most concerned about jobs and Moderates are divided
between jobs and high fuel costs.
