GOP congressional nominee Raul Labrador released on Thursday his second poll of the campaign in Idaho’s 1st District, saying he’s closed the gap with Democratic Rep. Walt Minnick from 10 percent in July to 6 percent this week.

The poll by Labrador’s pollster, Bob Moore of Portland, says Minnick leads 37 percent to 31 percent with 21 percent undecided. Independent Dave Olson and Libertarian Mike Washburn each received 6 percent.

The Statesman asked the Labrador campaign for the polling questions and regional breakdowns, but Labrador spokesman Phil Hardy said he couldn’t provide that detail without Labrador’s permission.

The survey of 300 voters was conducted Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Moore says there is a 95 percent chance that the margin of error falls withing a range of plus or minus 6 percent.

Moore’s first survey had the same sample and showed Minnick leading 37 percent to 27 percent. It was conducted July 12-13.

A poll by the Idaho Statesman and other newspapers conducted Sept. 13-15 had Minnick ahead 46 percent to 36 percent. That survey had a larger sample, 400 likely voters, and a 5 percent margin of error.

Labrador hailed the result, saying in a news release:

“This poll proves what my campaign and I have known for weeks, the momentum is with us, the people are responding to my positive message.”

Minnick has also been polling but has declined to release his findings.

“Our numbers are somewhat different,” said Minnick’s campaign manager, John Foster. “I’m not interested in commenting on internal polling numbers, his our ours. The only polling that matters is on Nov. 2nd.”
